Pathogen Invasion

Post by jeberexa on Tue Jun 03, 2008 7:27 pm

I was looking through files on my old computer and found this. It's not that good, but worth reading.

Pathogen Invasion!

“What a very boring day!” thought Cell J-49-R-1171, otherwise known as J-49. J-49 was tired of just sitting around at his post, waiting to battle those vicious pathogens! Ever since the beginning of military career, this is all he’d done. And he had thought that being a part of the 101 Immunity Defense was going to be fun! On the contrary, it was even more boring than being in the Waste Pick-Up Agency.
“WHOOOOOOO....WHOOOOOOO....WHOOOOOOO....!” All of the sudden the emergency alarm began sounding. Cell J-50, as obnoxious as ever, raced past J-49 to the elevator, and J-49 followed suit. Once they got there they both jumped in at the same time and screamed, “Main Control; Emergency!” Immediately the usually obsolete (because cells liked to show off by running up the stairs to their levels) elevator began to lurch forward at full speed. What a wild ride it was! The archaic elevator was faster than anyone had ever thought! As it finally reached its destination, it slammed to a halt, (causing both of the cells to do a messed-up cartwheel) and the doors opened with lightning speed. As the cells began to race to the Main Control, J-49 heard a sigh from the elevator like it had been waiting to do that its whole life.
BOOM! J-50 slammed open the doors and raced inside, only to stop abruptly, fix his hair, and straighten his tie. J-49 rolled his eyes and came in behind him. What a show-off!
“Thank you for reporting so fast. This is a very extreme emergency. We’ve had reports of hostile pathogens in the area. They seem to have been oblivious to us for a while, but have finally showed themselves. My helpers here have gone through the Pathogens: A Cure to Every Illness book and have found the correct antidote. Hopefully it will kill the hostile creatures. You will need to report to Section 4, Area 9. That’s where we found them last,” said the usually oblique captain as he handed the two military cells their antiseptic guns.
“Good luck and hopefully you will counteract the evil deeds of the pathogens!” yelled the Captain as the cells bounded out the doors and back to the elevator. Once they got there the doors opened slowly and the rancid smell of something burning was in the elevator. J-49 remembered the ride over and thought aloud,
“It must have been the elevator! It probably burned the wires going so fast. I doubt its ever gone near that speed in its lifetime!”

“Who cares? Where not even going that way! Section 4, Area 9, EMERGENCY!” replied J-50 with an excited grin. Immediately the old-fashioned pulley operated elevator zoomed forward. It lurched and jumped, and the burning smell got worse and worse....until it stopped. The stop happened so quick that J-49 got rammed in the nose with a half-eaten protein bar and J-50 did a complete 360 and landed on his head. Of course, they arrived without broken bones!
After a few minutes of walking the vicious cell-eating pathogens came into view. J-50 shushed J-49 and they began to creep behind a building toward the monsters. Once they got into shooting range, J-50 fired an antiseptic ray at the largest one. It reared back in pain, but came bounding full-force at both of them. J-49, seeing his chance, fired rapid shots at its temple, the most vulnerable place of a pathogen. Four of them missed, but the final two struck the creature with full force. He exploded, knocking over two of his evil buddies. J-50, who had recovered, fired at the pathogens on the ground, causing them to blow up instantly. J-49 on the other hand, was still firing rapidly at the other 3 pathogens. Even though they were smaller, they were much smarter than the lumbering, stupid, one that had came running at them. The pathogens began to retreat steadily, a few steps at a time. Then, all of the sudden, one fired at J-50's head. It whizzed past his left ear almost an inch, away, causing J-50 to back away. While all eyes were on J-50, J-49 sneaked around the back of the pathogens. He tip-toed ever so slowly....until one turned around. It shouted in a foreign language to its friends and they all turned around. The pathogens began to creep toward J-50, grins on their faces. They got closer and closer, adding to the tension. They all began to raise their guns....BOOM! One of them was shot in the back by J-50, causing the others to turn around. Seizing his chance, J-49 fired rapid shot at them, causing one to blow up. The other whooped around, though, and jumped in the air straight at J-49. J-49 readied his gun....then jumped out of the way and fired at the pathogen’s temple in close range. The pathogen smiled an eerie smile, than blew up instantly. J-49 grimaced and pondered why the evil creature had smiled at him so oddly. Of course, it was over now. He and J-50 had accomplished their mission! J-50 threw his gun up in the air and screamed loudly the common militia chant when a cell destroys a pathogen:

“Winding rivers and flowing streams,
whatever odd, remote, extremes,
cells destroy those pathogens,
Hark! Hark! Great antigens!
Hark! Hark! Great antigens!”

J-49 smiled and began to walk back toward their base, most likely to find a burning elevator and searing hot wires.

And to answer you early question, this is supposed to be a simulation of your body's immune system fighting off diseases. (pathogens)
