MY TWO BROKEN ARMS

CHAPTER ONE

Hello, my name is Justin. I am twelve years old, but when this happened I was only five or six. Almost every day my friends would ask me two questions, only two. Those questions were, “Can you even climb one bar on the monkey bars?” I would reply “yes”, and put my hand on the first bar, and say, “told you”. Then they would ask “Can you go all the way across the monkey bars?” and I would answer, “no”. This would go on almost every day and it got pretty annoying. So I stopped hanging around the monkey bars and started playing other things like tag and football. I also liked to balance on a pole that sticks out of the ground and is shaped like a table.
Anyway, my first broken arm happened like I said when I was five or six years old. We lived in Georgia on an Island called St. Simons Island.
It was my first day of school, my first day of kindergarten. School started at about 7:30 a.m. and I was probably pretty excited. I was going to school with all the big kids.
Shortly after arriving in the classroom we got to go outside for recess. When we went out to the playground I saw the monkey bars. They didn’t look as high as the monkey bars that I had seen at other playgrounds. I thought that maybe I would try one or two of the bars and see how it went. I was a very strong kid and I was now in kindergarten.
I put both hands on the side of the bars and climbed up the steps to reach the first bar.
Before I go on with my story I have to tell you that in Southern Georgia it is so hot and humid that within five minutes of being outside in August you look like you went swimming in your clothes.
So when I grabbed the first top bar I was fine. But by the third bar my hand were starting to slip, at the fourth bar I couldn’t hang on any more and down I went.
I was five years old, and I had fallen lots and lots of times before, but never had it hurt so much. I could not stop my tears from falling. The kids told the teacher, and the teacher took me to the nurse. The nurse called my dad and said that I would need to go to the hospital.
My dad likes to tell this story and when he does, he says, “Only Justin could break his arm, the first day of school, the first day of kindergarten, the first hour of class.”
We went to the hospital and they said that it was broken, it was a hairline fracture, which means it wasn’t a really bad break, but I needed a cast. The hospital put on a green cast that day, and right away my arm started to feel better. Two days later I got a new blue cast and later still another blue cast.
The arm I broke was my left arm, which wasn’t to bad because I could still write my ABC’s. I even got a water cast so that I could still swim.
Within one week three or four other kids at school had broken their arms falling from the same monkey bars. The school had band the monkey bars and later removed them.
CHAPTER TWO
The details of my second broken arm are not as long as the first. It happened one year later, at a playground that had a two story high slide. I was at the park playing while my brother was on the next field over playing a baseball game.
My dad was coaching the game and my mom was watching my brother who was up to bat.
A lot of kids at the playground liked to climb up the slide and walk down the slide, this was a lot more fun that just sliding. I had decided from the top of the slide to walk down. As I took my second step I tripped and lost my balance. I wasn’t holding on to the side of the slide so I fell all the way down to the ground, landing on my right arm.
Just as I had fallen my brother hit one of his longest hits of the season, almost hitting it out of the back fence. As soon as I came to my mom holding my arm, with tears falling down my face, my dad turned and saw me. He looked at my mom and said, “Take him to the hospital he broke his arm again.”
To this day, my handwriting is not very neat, because when I was learning to write in the first grade, I was wearing a cast.
I have not broken my arm for the third time, but then I am only twelve. For spring break this year we are going down hill skiing, snowboarding and tubing in Salt Lake City, Utah, it’s not dangerous like playing on the playground, so I will probably be O.K.

One of my sisters nearly broke her arm going on the monkey bars in 2nd grade. Fortunalty, the only thing that happened was that a lot of the skin on her palms was pulled away, I have no idea how she managed that. When I was in 2nd grade, I broke my arm going on one of those balance things in a park. I had to wear a cast for a moth, and my right arm is still slighty crooked because of that break.

Post this in the Trash Can(I wish they wouldn't call it that) part of the forum, or the Nonfiction section, not the fiction section.
